Once the Hawks opened up a 2 goal lead, the Stars narrowed it to 3-2 early in the 3rd period. But the trick was completed with an empty net goal in the final minute to seal the victory. Jan 21st vs Leaside Wildcats - W 6-1
The B&B Golden Hawks found a lot of offence against the Leaside Wilcats, a day after being shutout. In what was reported as a bizzare game of penalties, the Hawks found ways to score full strength, shorthanded, on a power play, and 4on4. Despite taking 9 penalties, and 6 for the opposition, the Hawks outshot and outscored the Wildcats 6-1. Scoring goals for the Golden Hawks; Nicole (1G /1A), Kaitlin, Jill, Mackenzie M, Katie, and Courtney. Assists were also awarded to Kendra, Mackenze K, and Ada. Backstopping the victory, Laura had an impressive game turning away 16 of 17 shots faced.

Storm Overtake Hawks in Final Minute

Jan 20th vs North York Storm - L 1-0
The B&B Golden Hawks dropped a close game to the North York Sorm, a possible first round playoff opponent. The game lacked a lot of flow through the first two periods as both teams struggled to get shots on net. Both teams were swarming the puck and backchecking hard to prevent opposition chances. The third period picked up as both teams generated more shots in the period then they had in the first 2 periods combined. It looked like this would end in a tie, as both goalies made big saves and held the game scoreless. But with 59 secods left, one puck tricked past the Golden Hawk goal line for the difference maker

Game 3 vs Oshawa lady Generals - W 4-0
The Golden Hawks played Oshawa for the right to advance to the semi finals. The Lady Generals were down to only 8 skaters to start the game. They played desperate hockey to keep the game even through almost 2 full periods. The game was flush with penalties. The extra time the refs took to sort out the details would allow the Oshawa team to rest its short bench. The Hawks broke through late in the 2nd period, and followed with 3 additional goals in the third period. The pace of the game eventually caught up to the shorthanded Generals. Scoring for the Golden Hawks; Kaitlin (1G), Courtney (1G), Jill (1G), Tayler (1G), Kendra (2A), Nicole (1A), Briana (1A), Emily (1A), Maddie (1A), Mackenzie M (1A), and Katie (1A). The shutout was shared by Alyssa and Laura, as the Generals generated 16shots in flurry attacks.

Semi Final vs Peterborough Ice Cats- W 3-2 (Shootout)
The Golden Hawks got a re-match against Peterborough in the semi-final game. The Hawks took an early lead on Kendra's power play goal, assisted by Kaitlin and Briana. The lead lasted for 4 minutes when Peterborough capitalized on a breakaway. But the Hawks came right back a minute later to re-take the lead. This time scored by Kaitlin, assisted by Katie and Tayler. A scoreless 2nd period put the Hawks in a good position, until a bizarre scenario played out midway through the third. After a Peterborough player was injured and the ref allowed the play to continue as it was deemed a non-penalty, the refs reversed their decision and awarded a powerplay to Peterborough. The Ice Cats were back even after scoring on the ensuing power play. The game ended in a tie, and there was no overtime. The game went to shooutout. Neither team could score through the first 4 shooters. Mackenzie K scored on the 5th shot, and shared the glory with Alyssa, who blanked all 5 Ice Kat shooters.
