Season Wrap Up

The on ice season for the 2009/2010 Bantam BB Golden Hawks has come to an end, and soon the players will be looking forward to next season and their new teams. Five players (Six including Lauren) will be moving up to Midget, while the rest of the team will be staying at the Bantam level.

The season had matching bookends with tournament Semi Final shootout losses to the same team in the early season Oshawa tournament, as well as the end of season Brampton tournament. However in between the team saw a lot of sucess and exceeded the expectations of the coaches and parents. Overall, the team had a record of 17 games over .500, and .637 winning percentage. They finished in 2nd place in their division, only 3 points back from the leader. They had several stretches of good play, including an 11 game undefeated streak in January and early February. Also in that streak was 7 consecutive shutouts. They won 2 tournaments through the season, taking both the Barrie Sharkfest and Scarborough Sharks tournament titles. In 21 tournament games, they only lost 3 games, with a 9-3-9 record.

Most importantly, the girls played and acted as a team the whole season. They supported each other through injuries and tough losses, they celebrated goals and victories, and they responded positively to the coaching staff and parents. The girls on this team have a lot to be proud of and hopefully will leave with positive memories of the season. Congratulations on a successful season.

Brampton Tournament (End of Season)

The Equipment Sales and Sevice Bantam Golden Hawks entered the Brampton Canadettes tournament to finish out the season. The Canadettes tournament is the largest female hockey tournament in the world. This year saw 408 teams entered with 12 teams competing for the Bantam BB title.

April 2 - Game #1 vs Scarborough - W 3-1
The ESS Bantam Golden Hawks played the first game of the Brampton tournament against the Scarborough Sharks. With the temperature well above normal outside, and the game played at the terrible South Fletchers arena, the ice conditions were a challenge for both teams. The Golden Hawks took the game game with a 3-1 victory. Despite being outshot in the game, the Hawks appeared to control the game more and deserved the victory. The Golden Hawks scored 2 goals in the second period on 3 shots to take a 2-0 lead. The teams traded goals in the third period. Scarborough put a strong push in the third period, outshooting Georgina 15-6. Alyssa held off the Sharks to preserve the win. Scoring for the Golden Hawks were Bianca (2G / 1A), Sydney (1G / 1A), Bridget (1A), Madison (1A), and Shannon (1A).
Shots on Goal: Georgina - 14 / Scarborough - 26

April 3 - Game #2 vs Durham West - T 1-1
The Hawks faced Durham West Lightning in the second game. It was a rematch of the final game of the Scarborough tournament, which the Hawks won. This time Durham West controlled the game. However Bianca got Georgina on the board with a wraparound goal in the 2nd period, assisted by Sydney and Melissa. It wasn't until midway through the third period, Durham West pulled even on a bullet shot from the point. Both teams moved ahead with identical undefeated records.
Shots on Goal: Georgina - 9 / Durham West - 17

April 3 - Game #3 vs Whitby - T 2-2
For the second straight game the Hawks were outplayed but earned a draw. This time Alyssa held the Hawks in the game, facing 21 shots. Again, Georgina got on the board first as Madison scored on a deflected shot from the point, assisted by Chelsea. Whitby tied the game in the second period and pulled ahead in the third period. The Golden Hawks battled back to tied the game to ensure they would advance to the quater finals. The tying goal was scored by Bianca, assisted by Bridget and Kayla
Shots on Goal: Georgina - 6 / Whitby - 21

April 3 - Quater-Finals vs Scarborough - W 4-0
The third game of the day for the Golden Hawks started late which meant for a long day for both teams involved. Georgina seemed to handle it better as they were in control of the game from start to finish, except for a little penalty trouble in the second period. They eliminated the Scarborough Sharks and advanced to the Semi Finals with a 4-0 victory. Scoring for the Golden Hawks was Bianca (3G - HAT TRICK!!!), Chelsea (1G), Kayla (1A), Jade (1A), and Melissa (1A). Alyssa earned her 23rd shutout of the season.
Shots on Goal: Georgina - 17 / Scarborough - 21

April 4 - Semi Finals vs Guelph - L 2-1 (Shootout)
The Hawks had a quick turnaround game the morning after their Quarter Final win. They faced the Guelph Thunder, who had not allowed a goal in the tournament. The Golden Hawks started strong, but gave up an early 2 on 1 and fell behind 1-0. The extra game took its toll on the Hawks as they held on looking for a chance to tie the game. Late in the 3rd period the chance came when Guelph took a tripping penalty. Jade roofed a rebound from Madison's point shot. The game was tied with less than 4 minutes to go. The overtme solved nothing even though both teams had some good chances. Guelph scored the only goal in the shootout on a shot that Alyssa got a piece of. The girls showed a lot of heart in this tournament and finished up with an overall tournament record on the season of 9-3-9 (with 2 of the losses occuring in Shootout)
Shots on Goal: Georgina - 12 / Guelph - 28
